Conjunctivitis

Pink eye is the other name for conjunctivitis. It is the infection or inflammation of the conjunctiva ( a layer that covers the outer layer of the eyeball or white part of the eye)

Types:

Irritant or allergic conjunctivitis.

Infective conjunctivitis.

Acute conjunctivitis.

Chronic conjunctivitis.

Allergic conjunctivitis: irritation of eyes occurs due to exposure to an allergen (dust, pollen, etc.)

Infective conjunctivitis: inflammation of eyes due to viral or bacterial infection. Bacterias streptococcus, staphylococcus mainly causes the infection of the eye.

Acute conjunctivitis: in acute conjunctivitis symptoms remain for 1 to 2 months.

Chronic conjunctivitis: when symptoms of conjunctivitis last up to four weeks.

Causes:

●  Infection mainly caused by viruses or bacterias. Varicella-zoster virus and streptococcus bacterias are the main cause.

●  Sharing towels or eye makeup can cause infection as it is contagious.

●  Exposure to irritants can cause allergic reactions to the eyes.

●  Allergy from dust, fumes, smoke, etc.

●  If a foreign particle or chemical enters the eyes can irritate them.

Symptoms:

●  Redness of eyes.

●  Itching and burning sensation in eyes.

●  Watery discharge from eyes.

●  The blurring of vision.

●  Crust formation in eyes especially in the morning.

●  Sensation as if sand particles in the eyes with a burning

sensation. Diagnosis:

Management:

●  Wash eyes frequently with cold water, it can give relief to the eyes.

●  Wash hands before touching the eyes.

●  Avoid eye makeup.

●  Do not wear contact lenses.

●  Soft clean clothes should be used for cleaning the crust

from the eyes.
Homoeopathic Management for conjunctivitis:

1. Apis mellifica
2. Euphrasia Officinalis 3. Histaminum

●  Apis mellifica: the burning sensation is well marked in Apis mellifica. It is indicated where eyelids are swollen like a water bag with needle-like pain and relieved by cold applications. Watery discharge is hot. Suppurative inflammation of the eyes.

●  Euphrasia officinalis: it is mainly given in catarrhal conjunctivitis, discharge is acrid. Eyes are watery all the time. Discharge is thick and yellow . sensation of sand particles in the eyes.

●  Histaminum: histaminum is well indicated in allergic conjunctivitis. Blepharitis . feeling as if forign particles inside the eyes. The Edges of the eyelids are red and swollen. Pruritus at the edge of the eyelids. Discharge is yellowish from the eyelids.
